Kelly was selected as
Chicago’s Performer of the Week on 3/28!
— Time Out Chicago

"In a stirring central performance, Owens
portrays a vulnerable, exhausted woman
who’s fiercely devoted to finding her son."
— Time Out Chicago

"impassioned performances
—especially from Kelly Owens, whose
Hester is a howl of pain personified."
— Chicago Reader

"Kelly Owens, as Hester Smith (the post-modern
Hester Prynne), delivers a performance
I will not soon forget."
— Chicago Theatre Beat

"In the lead, Kelly Owens (Hester) is flawlessly
flawed. She’s a mother obsessed. Owens’ blind
faith in her love for her son and her hate
for his accuser is tragically heartbreaking."
— Chicago Now

"A deeply moving performance by Kelly Owens"
— Around The Town Chicago

“The story belongs to Hester and
Kelly Owens powerfully realizes her with a
delicate balance of despondency and hope.”

I was born and raised in the once-great steel city of Gary, Indiana.

Looking back, I'm sure that growing up in the shadow of a world class city like Chicago had a significant impact on me. Somewhere deep, I learned that my possibilities stretched far beyond my current circumstances. Fortunately, I was blessed with a wonderful, supportive family. They also saw great possibilities for me and sacrificed a lot to provide 12 years of an excellent Catholic school education.

Thanks to a persistent recruiter, a scholarship and some personal cajones, my next stop was Northwestern University and all its requisite collegiate experiences - sorority, marching band, etc. After graduation...the Real World...a corporate career in marketing and...moonlighting as a singer and actress...

Wait. Where did that come from?

Well for as long as I can remember I've had the entertainment "bug". I spent hours playing my little Magnus keyboard, recording "comedy shows" with my big sister and singing in the mirror with a hair brush. But as I grew up, I ran from all that in my pursuit of the grey flannel life -- afterall I couldn't let all that good education go to waste on an entertainment career, could I? So I moonlighted (moonlit?) as a singer in bar bands, then wedding and corporate bands. I also acted in various Chicago productions.

Then life suddenly made the decision easier.I was downsized from my cushy marketing gig, so I figured...hey why not try what you've really wanted to do anyway?

The Divine Universe had spoken - Go Ye Forth and..PLAY!

So I did!
